Introduction
Hello, Continentals! (This is an old intro that I made when I thought some of my high school friends were going to log on and take a look at my project. I had zero responses).
I am not much of a texter, so I hope you don’t mind me directing you to this blog. Please feel free to leave comments, etc., or reply in messages, whatever you like.
I have something that I have been brewing on for over a year now. My wife (Susan) and I like to watch a show called “Call the Midwife”. One evening, after watching an episode, I was deeply affected. “Why would they bring back a beloved character only to kill her off? That’s not entertainment!”
I had similar passions inflamed during the Abu Ghraib scandal - “We are the good guys! What is this about???” Well, that led me to join the Army.
Hopefully, this won’t be as traumatic. I thought, “I can provide some entertainment that doesn’t rip your heart out, or remind you how cruel life can be. Can’t I? Something not like this episode of Call the Midwife, or Avengers End Game, for that matter."
So, I cobbled together some old songs I had written over the years, and I came up with something that I thought was presentable. This is it. “The Bush’s - And Friends!”.
I’m actually living in the best place for a Bush based musical, since we have the Bush presidential library (where I was commissioned into the Army). One of the scenes covers the Aggie Bonfire tragedy, that I imagine most of you know about.
Anyway, I won’t go over it, if you choose to read it. I hope you will. And if there are any wizards among you… I would like to find some way of presenting it with the pictures, with a button you can push to play the music that goes along with the scene. Right now you will have to just read the lyrics and script.
I have two thoughts - one, actually doing it with a troupe, and going on the road. Another, just an old man and a backdrop where I can show the pictures, and play “unplugged” versions. I need to get more savvy about staging a one man show. I have done a lot of thinking, but not much action since I wrote this, over a year ago! (In my defense, I was sent to Kuwait and that did consume a fair amount of my energy, but not much in the way of excuses since then).
Here's a link to a crude first draft - I was going to do more, but then Corona Virus interrupted my recording sessions.
